For families looking for a fun, family-friendly hike, the Appalachian Trail is perfect. The trail offers something for everyone with different age groups and abilities. Families with young children can enjoy short hikes while older kids and adults can take on more challenging hikes. No matter what your hiking ability, there is a hike out there just for you!
For a beginner’s hike, try the Benton MacKaye Trail which winds its way through the Appalachian Mountains. This 2.5-mile trail is perfect for families with small children and is wheelchair accessible. For an intermediate hike, try the Mt Mitchell Trail which spans 10 miles and climbs to 6,643 feet. This challenging hike offers beautiful scenery and may be too difficult for young children or beginners. For an advanced hike, try the Mountaineer’s Route on the Appalachian Trail which covers more than 20 miles and climbs to over 6,200 feet. This demanding hike is not recommended for beginners but can be attempted by experienced hikers.
